Dan,

The South Coast 23 is much like my Seafarer 23 and the Kittiwake, Alberg design, and the Sea Sprite, Luders? design, 23. All have long fixed keels 'al la' Carl Alberg. The 22 foot versions of this boat, both the Seafarer and the South Coast, came later during the "Trailer Sailor" rage. They are swing keel, beamier, high freeboard, low draft boats and don't sail well in my book. They are too tender and don't sail well to windward. I don't know anything about the Gulf Coast boats. I do know that my Seafarer, designed by Sparkman and Stephens, sails in a well behaved manner as does the Alberg 30. The Seafarer is an identical version of the Alberg 30 below the water line, just smaller. The 23 ft Sea Sprites and Kittiwakes that I have seen are very similar, below the water line. Both Kittywake and Sea Sprite have good web sites. There is a nice KittIwake in GOB mag Jan/Feb issue page 60, "totally restored" for 8.5K, eyow.
