You've got the right attitude, and with that statement you will get lots
of good advice here!!

The A30 Web site has a great page on the table

Look carefully for the mounting on the starboard settee, and be sure to
ask about the "z-leg" as it may have been taken off the boat but still
be in the owner's possession. The table would be fairly easy to
construct, but the z-leg can be an expense.

My boat (#272) has a folding step on the port side, so climbing down you
put your left foot on that, right foot on the "work surface" or engine
compartment cover, then down the companionway ladder. Hold on to the
slider, the slider rails and the handrails inside for security.

Do you know the hull number of the boat you are looking at?  There was a
major change in the interiors of the boat at or about #400.  I can
photograph my companionway set up as an example of an apres-400 boat.
