Hugh,
Whether to join either Association, or not, is a personal decision.
My primary goals in setting up the web site in the first place was to
spread the word about the boat and the Association in order to encourage
new members. A secondary goal was to provide more value for members who
don't live in the Annapolis area. Your participation on this mailing
list makes it more valuable for both of these goals.
I have no intention of closing things down for members only. There is a
mailing list that is restricted to members, but that is to provide a
less-public venue for discussions people don't want shared with the
world. These could be anything, but mostly consist of news and
announcements about members and Association events.
I assure you that you are very welcome here. Also, should you find
yourself in the Annapolis area, you will find yourself welcome to attend
an Alberg 30 Association event as a guest. Some events have an
admission charge to cover expenses, but others are completely free. You
can find the schedule of events online
(http://alberg30.org/Assoc/A30schedule.html), but if there's nothing
scheduled, you'll still find Alberg 30 sailors who will welcome seeing
you. I swear that this is the friendliest group I've ever joined.
