[Public-List] track car slides

Bill,

I don't know it this is the preferred method but the original wood is rotted on my boat on these tracks and also on the mast for the down haul (you might want to check that location as well). I plan to replace with a product whose name is "Star Board". It is basically polyboard, either ethylene or propylene I don't know which.

Originally the wood pieces were in continuous strips. I might make polyboard 'donuts', like a faucet washer, just to go around the fasteners. Unless someone on this list feels that a continuous strip would provide a better deck seal for the bedding compound. I don't believe that the continuous strip would be necessary for strength or support purposes. My fasteners are about 3 - 4 inches apart.

Anyway, if you plan to make just quarter sized donuts out of polyboard or the strips, then an inexpensive alternative would be to purchase a cutting board at Walmart, the white ones are mfg. from the same material as "Starboard". This material fashions just like wood and can be cut and shaped with the same tools. It won't rot or compress so it will last in this application for many years.

Remember to always use bedding compound when refitting any deck fittings.

  Michael

  Fellow Albergers,

On US11, I have genoa tracks mounted on the rail and I have what I presume to
be jib tracks mounted on the deck. I purchased some new blocks and track car
slides for the jib track and find that the track car slide won’t slide onto
the jib track because it is mounted directly against the deck with no space
for the jib car to slide onto the track.

What is the preferred method for raising the track so that the car will slide
easily? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
