John,
Trish and I both work in downtown DC. We live in Arnold, just a few miles north of Annapolis. It is 38 miles from our house to work. From Annapolis there is a terrific bus service to DC. The cost is $3.82 each way. Way less than the cost of gas and parking, not to mention wear-and-tear on the car and driver. The buses start running at 5:00 a.m and there is a bus every 10 minutes until 8:00 a.m.. In the evening the buses the buses start at 3:30 and run until about 7:00. The commute is remarkable reliable at about 1 hour. The beauty is you can take any bus you want, you can change buses from day-to-day, as you schedule dictates, and your bus pass never expires. On the bus you can read, catch up on work, or sleep (which is my preference in the morning). This means that you can live close to you boat, and keep your boat close to the weekend activities of the A30 group and still have a stress-free and confortable commute. It really works. The bus service is called Dillon's http://www.dillonbus.com/commuters.asp. Check it out, it may influence your decision on where to live and where to keep your boat.

I'm heading out there house hunting in a few weeks. Anybody on the list from the area have suggestions? I'm thinking of the Chesapeake, not the Potomac.
