[Public-List] Smooth Bronze Winches

Hi All
I've been having some difficulty with my sheets not grabbing onto the ultra-smooth surfaces of the original bronze winches on #124 --  has anyone had any success or experience in roughening up the surface of the winches?  I was thinking a coarse wire brush on a drill might work. 
Any ideas?
