Derrick,

That engine is only 227 lbs. You should be able to do that without and troble at all - it is about the weight of one crew member on my boat (not my wife) and there is only one other.Mike Lehman ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º> > Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 15:19:23 -0400> From: cptn_derrick at yahoo.ca> To: public-list at lists.alberg30.org> Subject: Re: [Public-List] Lifting Engine with Boom> > Hi Mike,> Thank you. I assume you have an Atomic 4 weighing in at around 310 lbs. It is very, very important that you support the boom at the point where you will be lifting the engine or else you could bend the boom in half. The best way is to take the main halyard to the boom where the engine lift (I assume a come-along) will be attached. Let the main halyard carry the load to the top of the mast. The shrouds and mast are well supported and can handle the weight. Hope this helps. I am curious to what what other people will respond to this.> Mike Lehman > ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º>> > > Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 14:05:10 -0400> From: cptn_derrick at yahoo.ca> To: public-list at lists.alberg30.org> Subject: [Public-List] Lifting Engine with Boom> > Hello everyone,> I have finally got the engine into my van and am all set to head down to Mara. Up until now I have felt fairly confident with everything I have done, but now is where my confidence fails...> Getting the engine to the marina, down the dock and beside the boat is not my concern, lifting it into the cockpit from the dock is. What kind of loads am I putting on the rig if I use the boom as a crane to lift the 400lb engine into the boat? More importantly, can the rig handle this??? If I had replaced all standing rigging and rebuilt all of the chainplates etc I would not be as fearful, but I have only had her 1 year and to be honest have not spent a lot of time examining the rig. > Is this a chance worth taking for simplicity sakes or should I figure out another plan?
