[Public-List] Mast support problem and Bristol 32

Certainly the Albergers have experience in repairing main beams.  But we 
lack knowledge of how the Bristol is constructed.  On the Alberg 30 
there are two different constructions.

On the older boats, the beam is an exposed laminated wood beam.  The fix 
for that involves sistering the beam with two aluminum plates bedded in 
epoxy.

On the newer boats, the beam is aluminum hidden in the liner.  The beam 
doesn't sag, but the bulkheads rest on the liner instead of on the hull. 
  When the liner sags, so does the beam.  The fix for this is to cut 
access in the lower liner and glass in support to the hull.

There are sometimes also problems due to the fact that the mast is 
off-center on the bulkhead, and people have added larger stiffening 
support on the bulkhead.  Sometimes the problem is just a rotten balsa 
core, and recoring the deck under and aft of the mast takes care of the 
dimpling problem.

I hope this helps.  I'm not sure how much would apply to the Bristol 32.
