[Public-List] Backinng

Here's what I have learned through advice and experience- using an
Atomic 4 with the original 2-blade prop.

If you just leave it in reverse she will back to port irrespective of
rudder position.

The trick is to alternate thrust in reverse with steering in reverse. To
back into my slip, I come alongside at dead slow and then swing out,
sometimes using a little forward thrust in the turn. When I have a good
angle I reverse and gun it for a count of 3, then back to neutral. This
is usually enough to give reverse momentum and steeragway so I can use
the rudder to guide her in. If you need more, just give it gas in
reverse for spurts, never long enough to get her turning.

Use ATF - not the Ford type ATF - just regular Automatic Transmission
Fluid.
Don't go crazy with it - a couple of drops will do

ATB
