[Public-List] Tiller end fittings question

You are talking about the tiller end fitting. I am talking about the rudder post end cap. We had to replace our rudder post end cap fitting 4 years ago; the tiller "H"-shaped fitting was OK. I had much trouble with the new Edson rudder end cap. I was VERY surprised of how badly Edson treated me over many telephone calls as they do have such a good reputation regarding their wheels and pedestals.

The keyway slot in the new end fitting was so far off center that, when the rudder was centered, the tiller was approx. 15 degrees to port  When I called Edson's technical dept. they told me that "we don't machine these ourselves; we by them from another source!" And, "They're a casting. That's as accurate as they can be."

When I suggested that they should sort through the units in there storeroom and send me a straight one, I was told it was too much trouble. I had to send the crooked one back to them, order a new one and take my chances. They would not assure me over the phone that the next one would be cut straight. The second one came to me with the keyway straight.  Cynic me.

Perhaps the tiller dept. is being served by a different batch of employees that the pedestal steering dept. I was and remain disappointed in Edson's tiller dept.

When I purchased my boat, the tiller head was loose. I replaced it with an
Edson tiller head and the fit remains tight six years later.

Dan, I researched a lot when I replaced mine, and found nothing better 
than the original Edson.  See
