We had fun with that too.
The spring I bought SURPRISE I was still smarting at having sold the wooden
boat. We launched the Alberg, threw up the mast, bent on the sails and
three hours later we were sailing.
I said to my wife, "this is incredible. With TOUCH WOOD we would be pumping
a few hundred gallons per hour out of her still and just starting the week
long wait for the hull to be ready to take the strain of the rig. Here we
are sailing! Ha ha this is great!"
Literally at that moment, our younger son Rob's voice came up from the cabin
"hey Dad - I'm walking in water"....so there we were pumping as usual.
Later when we found that the problem was the shaft packing, we laughed.
