Buy the best cloth you can afford with minimal resins and as tight a weave 
as possible, in other words premium cloth

Have your new main built with 4 full battens from new, retro fits are 
inferior to new built with Full Battens - the battens greatly enhance the 
retention of the original sail shape and help reduce the tendency for draft 
to move aft as the sail ages

My main's shape, built in 96 by the late Joe Fernandez still has a great 
shape and good forward draft.
