yes, i would put the use of the engine cooling pump to 
dewater the boat in the "act of desperation" category. The 
inlet side on my boat (a yanmar diesal) is small-something 
like 3/8". unless the engine is running hard, the 
thermostat cycles, so there is no continuous pumping. Then 
there is the risk of shelling the impellor with trash; 
losing the pump action and propulsion.

It's a great rig for winterizing, though.
