[Public-List] Spinnaker Pole

I too am interested in a suitably long(ca. 16') & strong whisker pole for my 140% Genoa.  For my short handed sailing situation, I plan to use 3 lifts/guys so the pole stays fixed if I furl my Genoa; I have rigged this up a few times with my short spinnaker pole.  I sure could have used one today on our run from Wingfield Basin to Lion's Head, Georgian Bay.  As it was, despite furling the Genoa, we still made 4.0 - 5.5 kts under prevented mainsail alone.  A non-telescoping pole could be stored up the mast, or perhaps consist of two parts which are joined when deployed.

For 24' - 33' sailing yachts, the recommendation is for o.d.= 2.5" and wall thickness = 0.083"

 

You are considering o.d. = (72.5mm)/(25.4mm per inch) =  2.85" inches and wall thickness = (4 mm)/(25.4 mm/inch) = 0.16", i.e., both considerably over the recommendation.  The moments will be correspondingly larger... can't seem to find my spreadsheet to calculate these for you.
