Gord,Don, thank you for your responses,they were both informative.I think for little old cruising me it is a case of "first I was undecided now I just dont know"
I shall see the boat on Thursday.If fit looks as if it has the original heavy duty non bendy mast I may re-rig it with a masthead forestay.If it has a bendy mast I shall stay with   the fractional rig .My Alberg 30 "Tait Tait "that I had for 10 years I sold in the Rio Dulce thinking my sailing career was over.It took only a few boatless months before the addiction became too strong to resist.I an sure there are significant differences between the A30 and the Vanguard apart from size but it is indicative of my affection for "Tait Tait" that my new old boat looks very similar to an A30.
