Just to clarify:  I turned the *stuffing box* down to very nearly  
match the stern tube, not vice versa.  The stern tube, IIRC, is about  
1-5/16" OD.  The stuffing box was something over 1-3/8", but I don't  
remember exactly what.  I turned the stuffing box down to 3/8" which  
matched a hose size and very very nearly matched the stern tube.
