If you look at the pictures (about the 6 one down) at http://alberg30.org/maintenance/disorganized/deckbeam/ you will see what I mean. This helps prevent the twisting of the beam when it is under load.

I assume that these supports would not eliminate the depressions in the coach roof aft of the mast step plate because they suppport the beam and do not extend underneath the coach roof?
