[Public-List] Steam bending Teak

I thought that the toe rails were scarfed and mechanically fastened together but not glued in any way. How were they done originally? Was any adhesive used?

I just replaced my toerail with mahogany that was scarfed together with 
epoxy resin.  About a week later both scarfes gave out.
