Great story.  Good that you had the room to do all those pirouettes with your boat.  35 knots with a spinnaker up.......................well I guess you don't attempt that anymore.

The only time I have lost steering in the Alberg due to heel angle, was while reaching with a spinnaker in 35 knots. As the boat speed built, the boat began to heel excessively, until the boat reached a speed of little over 10 knots. The angle became so severe that the rudder came out at about the same time the spreaders dipped into the water and the boat broached. Water was pouring over the coamings and the cockpit was full (we had the companionway hatches in place and locks on the seat lockers). When the boat righted, it took off like a shot, until we reached 10 knots again and, once again broached. The crew was screaming "what should we do!!!!" I yelled back "Hang on!!!" Finally we were able to get it under control and get the chute down, but not until we broached 4 times in a half mile. Dipping the spreaders is what I would consider pushing the boat to the limit and it where you lose steerage.
