[Public-List] Bilge pump

I have a large "L" shaped wooden contraption that fits down in the bilge
with pump screwed to the flat horizontal bottom of the "L" and the vertical
section of the "L" comes up far enough to easily reach in and pull the pump
up for inspection.  This works well and the pump has been working fine for
over 6 years.  I am glad to have it.  On my maiden voyage 6 years ago  I
woke up early in the morning in Block Island with the pump running almost
continuously.  That led me to discover that my stuffing box on my prop shaft
was pushed back and leaking.  I tried to fix it to no avail and had to run
for the mainland for a repair.  I was alone on board and it would have been
difficult to make it to safety and be pumping manually at the same time.
