[Public-List] Alberg 30 or Triton?

Can't comment on which boat, but I am curious as to why you plan on using an outboard. If you end up having to use it in heavy seas you stand the big chance of the prop going in and out of the water, with the accompanying cavitation and loss of power. Not to say anything of the engine problems that all that over revving can cause. As long as seas are calm, no problem, but who can guarantee that? In any case good luck and fair winds....

Cheers,

Daniel,

I have not done any Bluewater sailing so probably am not qualified to respond. But my first thought is that ease of use equates to comfort and then to safety at sea. Remember it is the center two feet which you are getting with the larger Alberg. Two feet in length is a much larger increase in interior volume than one might think. This would be a plus for a longer voyage for every reason that I can think of for selecting a boat for that purpose.

My burning question is that have you asked the same question to the Triton folks?

Hello all,

I am looking to purchase a single handed blue water cruiser to sail to Europe and beyond. I plan on living alone or with one other person. I have found a couple of each of the selected boats. Ranging from #3 Triton to 653 newer 66 model. and 1964 to 67 Alberg 30's. Prices range in the $,1000.00 range for the Triton to $10,000.00 for the Alberg. Either boats after refitting will be about the same price at $15,000.00. I am not planning on using the inboard engines but an out board. Which boat am I likely to like best. I am looking more for ease of use (Safety at sea) than comfort.

Dan
