I am in the process of making up a similar plate for beneath the mast.  Keep in mind that if your mast is mounted forward on step then the rolled edges can prevent the hatch from leaning against the mast and hence prevent leaving the hatch open.  I found this an issue as I wanted the folded edges about 2" high as  connecting up blocks is easier with a little more room.  Might be worth keeping this in mind.
