Ed,

It is great to hear you have made such progress.  I look forward to  
seeing you on the bay this summer.

In regards to the full battened main issue.  I have had one on my boat  
for ten years and I love it.  I would not own a mainsail without full  
battens  I also have the standard track on the mast.  I have not had  
huge issues with getting the sail up or down.  The one thing you need  
to ensure is that the inboard batten ends are in plastic or aluminum  
pockets that the slide attaches too.  this will greatly reduce the  
friction problems, especially lowering the sail.  I also highly  
recommend lazy jacks and routing the main halyard to the cockpit.   
this will allow you to handle the sail with out leaving the helm.
