[Public-List] Atomic 4 mechanic?

Jock,

Had a similar problem with Mermaid #305.  She would run for longer periods of time and then quite. I would wait 5 or 10 minutes and she would start right up and run again.  Checked everything in the fuel system; even thought I might have water in the fuel from over winter. Had a mechanic check everything out and he was stumped too.  By elimination we thought it might be the coil.  Put a new coil on and haven't had a problem since.

Although I have a Cal 36 now instead of an Alberg, I still have an Atomic 4.
I heard that John White has retired? Can anyone recommend a good Atomic 4
mechanic who would come to PSA on the Magothy?

Friday my engine started up and ran while I was untying dock lines and 1/2
way to the mooring when it quit on me. I got it started again and it died
again, so I towed the boat by rowing the dinghy the rest of the way. Luckily
no wind.

Today, Sunday, I tried to start it again. It started just fine and then died
in a few seconds and wouldn't start again. The gas is turned on. There is
gas. I checked the fuel filter and it seems OK. I opened the distributor cap
and there doesn't seem to be any corrosion but I don't know much about
engines so I am not really sure what I should be looking for in the
distributor. I replaced the wires 2-3 years ago and haven't used the boat
that much so I can't imagine they are bad.

Besides recommending a mechanic, anyone have any ideas what might be the
problem?

Could it be something blocking the vent on the gas tank?
