A set of 6 volt T 105 Trojan Golf Carts lasted me 10 years, which Trojan 
said was extraordinary. 7 is more the norm. They are great if you have the 
height - the footprint will easily fit a G27 battery footprint - but check 
for height.

As Sunstone is an A-37 Mk I, when we replaced the 6 volt T 105 Golf carts, I 
elected to move the House bank down into the hold (which is huge on the Mk 
I) and put in a pair of Trojan 6 volt L16 batteries with 435 Amps as I had 
sufficient height.

Running a 3 stage 40 Amp Xantrex True Charge smart charger with a temp 
sensor on the House bank. It is fantastic and does up to 3 independent 
banks - we have two.

The hold location means the House batteries stay much cooler in the heat of 
summer and when the engine runs, which is great for battery longevity.

I have been told by a number of people, who are electricians, that it is an 
absolute no no to use an off the shelf automotive charger on a boat in the 
water. There are serious safety issues, not the least being electrocution as 
the DC ground can become active with AC in the chronically damp environment 
of a boat. The AC can then leak into the water or energize the engine block.

All auto chargers have a warning not to use them in marine environments. And 
for good reason.

In addition to the safety issue, in the event of a fire (another risk for 
auto chargers in marine environments); or electrocution; or stray current 
leakage; one's insurance could be voided.

Just some food for thought.
