The general rule of thumb is to spec the pins at 2x the wire diameter...
That would make 1/2" likely for your forestay pins.

That said, there are variations ....

You should make a trip up there with a caliper to measure.

I have to crow a little.  Last Wednesday was the end of the summer series at
our club.  SURPRISE's crew were sitting at a big table when the awards
started.  I had just started telling my deck dogs that we'd done well in the
races we made it to, but since I travel so much for business and the Navy we
missed half the races.  I was just saying 'otherwise I think we'd be covered
in glo(ry) .... I didn't get the word out.  They called SURPRISE to come up
and get the red pennant for third overall.  I was quite surprised.  Also
rather proud I guess since I am telling you!
