You should always have a spare Bilge pump kit on board anyway.

I would suggest you use what Whale provides - I have never personally had 
that particular problem.

Likely your pump is original, presumably rebuilt with kits over time.

Suggest you use the proper Whale Kit - make sure it is a Nitrile kit - 
Nitrile holds up much better against oils.
