So many difficult ways to solve a simple problem.  First don't remove the
cutlass bearing house and stern tube unless absolutely necessary,
resealing the tube is not simple.  To solve the ID/OD problem of stern
tube, ten years ago on 380 I pushed on a section of clear hose with
(embedded cord type) over the tube and then on top pushed on the regular
stuffing box hose double clamped, job complete time 10 mins.
