It's also an easy technique for single-handing. I bring the anchor back
to the stern, outside of all the rigging. Then I flake out an
appropriate amount of rode on the deck and cleat it off on the bow.
When going slowly, it's not very dramatic. I anchored this way under
sail, once, with a crew of a half-dozen ~10 year olds. That was fairly
dramatic, as we were probably still doing 2+ knots. Put the rail to the
water and came about like the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean.
