[Public-List] Batteries

Gilleleje's batteries have always been in that location. She too is a liner 
boat. After a recent survey, I was told that, because of the location, the 
compartment was  "battery box" and therefore no additional battery boxes we 
needed since the area is well ventilated to the bilge. The batteries just 
needed to be strapped in. I had just bought 2 battery boxes from West Marine 
just for the survey, after the survey I returned them.

BTW, I use 2 group 27 marine deep cycle wet cells from Sam's club ($69 
each). I always start on battery #1 and after about 10-15 minutes of running 
switch to #2 to top it off. Typically I run on #1 and save #2  for my house 
battery. I never run on both because I don't want one battery charging the 
other one. I never use a shore power charger. Using this method I get about 
8 years from a set of batteries. My stereo system is an iPod docking 
station, I use a 65 watt portable inverter for AC power and use it to also 
run my color TV (a 15" flat screen) to watch American (real) football during 
football season. The engine alternator is a 70 amp (standard with the 
Universal M4-30) alternator, so I have plenty of charging power once the 
engine is running.

Surprise's batteries are there too... Under the after floorboard at the foot
of the companionway.  She's a liner boat.
