[Public-List] Still leaks - seating the pump

Hey Gord,

In my Westerbeke tech manual, which I know is a different motor but the
Sherwood pump and hookup is quite similar to the Oberdorfer, in the WB
Manual, they speak of needing to shim with gaskets sufficient clearance do
that the pump drive is not compressing hard into the engine coupling drive
slot. They say 1-3 gaskets my be needed to achieve that clearance so that
there aren't oil leaks or the risk of damaging the pump seal allowing water
to flow into the oil system.

During tightening they suggest only hand tight, then jog the engine without
starting, to ensure the pump coupling seats squarely before final tightening
to pattern.

May well be a similar story with the A4 as their pump configurations and
couplings appear almost identical.

Anyway, just a thought.

Good luck Gord

John
