Roger,

The dimensions are from the fiberglass under the toe rail to the water. The
bow is the very pointy end and the stern is the middle of the boat. Both
measurements were take from the boat with me on the deck, so you may add an
inch or so to be safe.

Thanks so much Mike. It's good to have real data and sounds like our boats
will have similar set ups. I have a Universal 18 which is undoubtly lighter
than your monster 30 but I will also eventually reinstall the radar mast
aft; plus, I don't mind the stern being a little high for when people are in
the cockpit. Are your dimensions from the deck (excluding toe rail, bow
bracket, etc.? Also is the stern measurement amidships or outboard where
the deck meets the transom (the former being higher)?

I am picking up a laser level from a computer floor installer we work with
today and should have the project done over the weekend. Then its on to
deck hardware and hatch install.

Thanks again,

Roger,

Sorry I was away for a few days. I just measured...

Bow to water - 42.5"
Stern to water - 28.5"
Mid-ship (Between the large ports) - 32"

I should point out that each boat will be a bit different depending on how
much gear is on board, type of engine and whether the water tank and fuel
tank are full. We have raised our waterline several times over the years
because the boat has become heavier which I think it due, in part, to water
in the hull itself. Our fuel and water tanks are always near full and we
carry the necessary cruising gear, but we only carry the main and a roller
furled jib, the only extra sail on board is a spinnaker. Our engine is a
Universal M4-30 diesel which weights about 50 lbs less than the Atomic 4. We

have her floating on her lines perfectly finally, but it did take
adjustments over the years. Hope this helps.

Gord and Mike (Lehman),

I sent you each of-line emails similar to the one below on Friday but have
been having computer problems and I they might not have gotten to you but
might if I sent them on "the page." Also, if anyone could help me get the
dimensions from the deck to waterline, I would greatly appreciate it. I did
the bottom paint yesterday and, not knowing where to put the top, I held it
low and good old 148 now has a weird looking 18" deep boot stripe.

Here is the original email:

"Hope you and yours are well. We just finished the sealer coat on good old
148's bottom; starting to see the light. We are thinking, rather than
launch in the river this year and finish the interior while afloat; we might
just finish her on the trailer in July and August in time to get to The Bay
for the good September/October sailing.

We were going to launch without anit-fouling paint, let the dirty line from
the river water mark the water line, and add bottom paint in the fall. But,
the new plan requires outside data to establish the top of the bottom paint.

If you are going aboard this weekend, might you please do me a big favor;
with no one on the boat (or at lease similar weight people at each end, then
each side), measure the height of the FG deck (not including, taffrail,
toerails, the stem plate and the wood under it) above the water at the bow,
stern and amidships. I am trying to establish the top of my bottom paint
and if I know the waterline dimensions, I can establish my line.

Please call my cell with questions; no big deal if you don't have time.

Best,

Roger"
