Thank you, Bob Kirk. I too flew Cucs and I remember the wire .Yes, we have a vertical fill hose. I will try it. I presume that you fill the tank, insert dowel, mark the wet portion in quarters?

Does your boat have the luxury of a (pretty) vertical deck fill? Isobar has an elegant fuel gage: a length of dowel calibrated with marks at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. Works great. Think dipstick.
When I first flew a Piper Cub, that fuel gage was similar. The fuel tank was directly in front of the cockpit and a thin vertical rod, mounted on a floating cork in the tank, stuck up in front of you. Elegant and simple; Never tried it in a loop or flying inverted, though.

There is no fuel guage for the fuel tank and it causes much concern when various members are unsure if there is fuel onboard. Has anybody installed a fuel guage AFTER the tank has been installed? Must one cut into the top of the plastic tank? I really miss sailing on the Alberg, rail down, and being so knowledgable about what was under me.
