I have had some success keeping the birds off by stringing 100# monofilament a few inches above the spreaders between the shroud and mast.  Also a string at the top of the mast from the forward facing wind sensor, back over the anchor light, and tied to the windex mast.  I still get some agile purple martins on the mast but it seems to deter the gulls and ospreys.
