[Public-List] topside maintenance

I still have the original gelcoat on my A30, and sail in fresh water (Lake Champlain).  Toward the end of the season, the hull just above the boot top is getting pretty brown.  Years ago, I used soft scrub to clean this area and I'm wondering if it was too abrasive.  Should I be compounding this area?  I put wax on every year, but I'm sure it doesn't last all season.
