[Public-List] painting prop

I am curious as to how fast barnacles or other growth actually builds up on props? I haul usually once a year and never have any serious fouling...although Puget Sound is not a hot bed for marine growth, I haven't seen people paint props in Hawaii or Cal waters. Is this a significant problem in tropical waters around Florida?
thanks

The product we were testing was intended to be a replacement for the high levels of chlorine and bromine used to control algae growth in swimming pools. Zinc, in both its elemental form and its oxide was surprisingly effective at killing blue-green algae (cyanobacter), even at low concentrations. I would not be at all surprised to find that in the form of Penaten it was effective at controlling other bio-growth such as fouls propellers.

Another guy in the boatyard put shoe polish on his. I put shoe polish on mine last year I will find out how well it worked when I see the bottom in April Number 155 La Plaoma
