It is possible that the wax is causing the brown stain. You may try a
different brand. It is more likely, however, that the gel coat has become
porous and the stain is caused by micro-organisms that get into the tiny
pores and turn brown when they die off.

I still have the original gelcoat on my A30, and sail in fresh water (Lake
Champlain). Toward the end of the season, the hull just above the boot top
is getting pretty brown. Years ago, I used soft scrub to clean this area
and I'm wondering if it was too abrasive. Should I be compounding this
area? I put wax on every year, but I'm sure it doesn't last all season.
