Thanks Stephen,

Since I have to install the transducer before going into the water, I think
I will just assume the sole is level in both directions.  I don't think the
transducer will notice a few degrees in either direction.

Hi,

It the cockpit sole level? Yes in theory, no in practice. Most 
boats lie off their lines slightly. Mine is down by the stern (as 
are most Alberg 30s I've seen) and has a list to starboard by a 
degree or so. Under sail of course you will be heeling more than 
a degree one way or the other and running the engine will 
slightly lower the stern.

A carpenter's level will tell you if are parallel to the water.
