I have never tried that and not sure why you would want to do that instead
of all cetol. I have heard of epoxy with varnish over top for UV protection.
As an alternative can I recommend Armada 'Water Clear' finish. It is like
cetol, but is completely clear and lets the natural beauty of the wood show
through. It is available in hi-gloss and satin. I like the hi-gloss look
personally. In my experience it last much longer than cetol. I usually let
it dry for 48 hours between coats and follow the directions on the can. It
is very easy to touch up on toe rails. See link below...
