[Public-List] Shaft Log replacement/improvement ideas?

A fiberglass stern tube would be my choice, if I the opportunity.  You get a chance to line it up perfectly, and once it's installed it's basically part of the boat, with no bedding or metal to worry about.  Not to mention that you can make it so that tube and the stuffing box match diameters.

I don't know if you've read any of Tim Lackey's logs, but he re-fits plastic classics for a living and he has installed several fiberglass stern tubes.
