Gord,
Understood. Darn, I removed those travelers, filled the holes, painted the
deck then reinstalled them; should not have bothered with the reinstall.
The leeway thing reminds me of my Hobie 16 (asymmetrical hulls, no dagger
boards). I used to race open class on a NH lake, often against a 19' Flying
Dutchman; he ahead at windward mark, I breeze by on reaching legs and get 8
boat lengths ahead at leeward mark and he catches up at the last upwind leg,
I steering like a small airplane in a big crosswind, he like giant slalom
skier, and beats me by a nose.
Very disappointing for me and my crew, my 85 pound yellow lab. Best crew I
ever had though; he would go to windward or leeward side of the trampoline,
he learned the hard way to keep from sliding to leeward when flying a hull,
he didn't talk back and, when the wind died, just put him between the hulls
with his leash on and steer back to the beach at about 2 knots. Of course,
his contribution wasn't optional as he would swim after me (causing a hazard
to navigation) if I didn't take him along.
