Subject: [Public-List] Alberg 30 beyond repair
It was a sad day last week when I visited an Alberg that is destined for the
scrap pile. She is Stranger #135 and was too far gone for restoration. Many
of the parts were already removed like the mast and boom, window frames,
etc. I decided that there were a few pieces that are custom pieces built for
the Alberg that should be preserved so I removed them. One was the stem head
fitting. I was too much work to remove all of the bolts and pry the fitting
off especially since it was late in the evening and I only had about 30
minutes of day light left...so I cut the fitting (and bow) off with a
sawzall. It broke my heart to do this, but it really shows how well the boat
is made. The caption on the photo should read "you don't want to get hit by
an Alberg"!
