For really challenging channel turbulence, sail in the Northwest between Vancouver Island and the Canadian mainland - Malaspina Straits, Desolation Sound, etc. I have done it in a fully-powered 42 ft power boat and watched sailboats struggle - lots of places where you need to wait for slack water. - Gordon White
