Due to their high prices for marine parts and supplies, I have virtually stopped buying from West Marine. Instead I have been using Hamilton Marine, Defender’s or Jamestown. Today I needed some Cetol and couldn't wait. So I went online to check prices...$35 Hamilton; $33 Defender; $26 Jamestown; $42 West Marine. I read the West Marine price guarantee on their website “We Won't Be Beat—Low Price Guarantee, West Marine will gladly match most U.S. based competitor's price on identical, in-stock items within 30 days of purchase” so I decided to give it a try. I printed the page from the Jamestown website showing the $25.99 price and took it to the West Marine store. They were happy to match the price and gave me no hassle at all. I guess they figure a small profit is better than NO profit. I plan to continue this practice and take the view that these are “discount coupons”.
