Sorry for the double post, but I thought of a couple of other points.

(1) During the 18 months my lie to anchor, she experienced numerous 50+
knot blows. The anchorage was southern pluff mud, known poor holding
ground. She stayed put for 18 months...took me over two and a half
hours to pull the anchors when we moved from that anchorage, though.

(2) I'm anchored in some pretty rough, bouncy, unprotected anchorages
with just the Manson. I cannot recommend this anchor enough. I thought
of going with the 25 lb when I bought it, but I really want "insurance"
for just about any condition.

(3) A long-term cruising friend has been known to say "get the heaviest
anchor you can lift."

(4) Back in regard to the 14 pounder...I know quite a few mid-20's
cruising boats that carry 25+ lb primaries...claw, plow or Manson/Rocna
design. On that basis alone, I personally would consider 25 pounds if
anything undersized for an Alberg 30.

(5) Neither I nor the cruising friends referenced in (3) or (4) have a
windlass, manual or electric.

Your Mileage May Vary, as they say...just throwing this stuff out for
'food for thought.' Like I said, insurance....
