Last summer I agreed to crew on a friends Tarten (I think that's right)for a short cruse from Lorain, Ohio up to the islands, Put-in Bay to be exact. It was the third time had ever been aboard of a sailboat. The first was in 1961 aboard my grandfathers schooner the "Forest Stream". A fishing vessel out of St. Anthony, Newfoundland, I was four years old. Obviously I don't remember much, the sails and the wind is about all. Next was on a trip to Alaska aboard a friends boat. Maybe a Preston or Pierson, I don't know for sure. We never set sail,no wind.
Anyway, that cruise last summer hooked me so (being nearly broke) I asked my friend who owns the Tartan if he knew anyone who may be willing to trade a good sailboat for my 1992 Harley. Sure enough he found a guy who had bought a second boat. He was desperate to sell his Alberg 30. We traded heads up, the Harley for his Alberg.
I think I got the better deal. I only got out three times as it was late in the season but I truly love sailing. And what a beautiful old boat. (Hull number 292.) I can't wait for next summer.
Now to you folks,it never occurred tome that there would be an organization dedicated to these wonderful old boats, but how freaking cool is that. I've been reading the posts from you guys and learning a lot. Just wish I lived on the Chesapeake Bay.
Anyway all this to say that I am really excited about owning this boat and if any of you have any advise you would like to share I would love to hear from you.
