The cross section I have recently measured has thickness of .185 inches
across the sidewalls and .166 inches across the flat surface where the track
mounts. The front round wall also measures .166 inches at the apex of its
radius.

Glenn

I can't imagine a heavier sectioned mast than the A30.

The items of concern I would have are th mast step and chain plates.

your journey. The Cape Town yacht club ( can't remember its formal name)
might be a good place to tie up. They had 24 hour security last I was there
and great facilities. Cheep at the time also, but a bit out of town - maybe
20 minutes walk to Victoria harbor .

30 aluminum mast - are you sailing with your original mast or did you
replace it with newer/heaver cross section. In your experience now, do you
think the original aluminum cross section is sufficient?

follow your route to Africa. I've upgraded everything on the boat except the
mast and am dithering about spending the money for a new one ($10k most
recent quote), if the production mast proves to be good enough.
