David -
If you were able to remove the through-bolt that secures the step to
the mast, and apply a penetrant, I expect a good rap from a hammer
would get it started. I had a new step fabricated from aluminum here in
Maryland this spring by Eastport Spar & Rigging. He used the plug from
my old step and bolted it to a new plate. I can give you more details
off-line if you wish.

Subject: [Public-List] Mast Step Corroded to Mast Foot

The subject line sums it up: my mast step will not come free from the
foot of the mast. Anyone have some proven techniques for getting it
free? One of the bolt slots is broken, and I'd like to replace the
step. Is there a source for these old A30 mast steps?

Thanks so much!

David
