Jim Palmer suggest the zip-tie trick to me (Gord - you didn't patent it
fast enough) and I am looking forward to better sleep aboard - although
I am about accustomed to the slap by now.

Hello friends - 

SURPRISE had a similar issue up at the masthead... I found that in
addition
to the chafing problem, the sheath of the masthead light wires had
suffered
badly from UV deterioration.   I have wrapped the new wires with tape
for
protection from the sun.

Another problem SURPRISE had was the sound of wires slapping inside the
mast
as she rolled at anchor.  I solved that one by attaching plastic zip
style
tie wraps on the new wire as it was fed into the mast.  I chose a size
of
zip that had a long enough tail that it pressed against the inside of
the
mast and kept the wire pressed against the opposite side.  The mast has
been
silent since.  Was I proud of myself for being so clever?
