[Public-List] Progress on fuel issue

Hello friends,

I took a long lunch just now and made another assault on my perplexing tank
#2 issue.

I bought a double male hose barb, and used it to bypass the selector switch
which directs which tank my engine is drawing from.

The engine would not run on fuel directly drawn from #2. I reconnected
the selector, turned it to #1 and started the engine. When it was warmed
up, I switched to #2...as before after a minute or so the engine died.
When the engine died, I noticed that the fuel filter was full of liquid.
The problem isn¹t the selector. The engine ran again once I switched it to
#1.

I crawled into the portside cockpit locker and rechecked the fuel hose
looking for twists or kinks, there were none. I removed the fuel hose from
the male hose barb on the top of the tank (very awkwardly place up high
under the deck) and noticed that the hose was full of fuel a bit splashed on
my hands...it didn¹t smell like gasoline. I blew through the hose and
naturally got some Œfuel¹ on my lips..... It didn¹t taste nor smell like
gasoline.

So now I¹m working on the theory that the fuel in #2 is degraded or
contaminated. I¹ve made an appointment with the marina to suck out the
tank tomorrow morning. I guess I was kidding myself when I thought the
engine was able to run on the fuel in hose from #2 when I was doing my
testing earlier.

I think I may be on to something at last.
